The Henderson tradition started in 1919 when a young entrepreneur by the name of Harry Henderson organized Henderson Electric Company to supply products and equipment to the emerging electrical contracting business in Louisville, Kentucky. Throughout the roaring twenties and the depression era of the thirties, Henderson Electric Company transformed its electrical supply operation into a full service electrical contracting business. In 1924 Henderson joined NECA, the National Electrical Contractors Association and is still a member today. The tumultuous events of World War II and the need for expanding industrial capacity helped establish Henderson Electric as a prominent local electrical contractor with the potential of performing complicated projects in a timely, cost efficient manner.

By the mid-fifties Henderson maintained a solid position as one of the capable electrical contractors in Kentucky by completing such projects as the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center, major projects at G. E. Appliance Park, and a major retrofit project at International Harvester’s Farm Machinery foundry and manufacturing operation. In 1960, Henderson opened an office in Lexington, Kentucky to better serve the rapidly growing central Kentucky market. Within a few short years, this office was managing some of the largest projects to date for the University of Kentucky and the Commonwealth of Kentucky, in and around Frankfort, the state’s capital.

In 1986, Henderson opened a field office on site of the construction of the new automotive assembly plant owned and operated by Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Georgetown, Kentucky. Due to our involvement in the construction of this large facility and the resulting relationship with Toyota, we have established a permanent presence on-site. Today we continue to service Toyota, as well as other customers, from our Georgetown office.

As the company’s customer base continued to expand with large customers who maintained operations in diverse geographic locations, the need for a strategy to continue to offer quality service emerged. Partly as a solution to this need and partly as a way of preparing the company for management succession, Henderson Electric Co., Inc. merged with five other prominent national electrical contractors in 1998 to form Nationwide Electric, Inc. (NEI). However, nearly a year later in November 1999, NEI was purchased by a large publicly held Canadian corporation by the name of Bracknell (TSE: BRK) to serve customers throughout North America. We serviced our customers as Henderson Electric Co., Inc., a Bracknell Company.

Bracknell, and its entire North American operation, was affected when the construction and telecommunications market started to dramatically slow down in 2001. By November of 2001 Bracknell Corporation had collapsed and ceased to exist. On December 1, 2001 the Henderson management group repurchased the assets of Henderson Electric Company, Inc. and began operating as Henderson Services, LLC. The name change reflects our new marketing strategy. We are a company that is now a provider of many other services in addition to traditional electrical construction.

Henderson has embraced changes without losing sight of the tradition of quality performance and a passion for customer service. That tradition continues on today marking a major milestone, 100 years of service. For Henderson the 100th anniversary is about honoring the past and celebrating the future. We believe that its’ founder, Harry Henderson, would be proud of the continuing tradition that still bears his name. Today’s leadership remains focused on these same ideals, along with embracing the use and implementation of technology to provide world-class performance in all aspects of our business.

Thorntons Store Support Center

A 2 story 92,500 sf support center consisting of open and private offices, conference rooms, full commercial sized kitchen for research and development as well as a cafeteria for employees. Our scope of work included all site electric include primary service duct bank and secondary service for all switchgear, panels and transformers. As well as all raceways, wiring and devices, including light fixtures and controls. In addition to the emergency power system, fire alarm system and voice/data systems.

Norton Data Center

MSD Morris Forman WWTP

The Alternative Solids Project was installed at the Morris Forman Wastewater Treatment Plant to replace MSD’s existing Zimpro process in order to help reduce the majority of the odor produced by the plant. Henderson Services partnered with Guarantee Electrical Company out of St. Louis, and B & S Electrical Supply in Louisville, to meet the demanding challenges of the design/build electrical contract, which required an extreme amount of coordination.

UPS Hub 2000

Installation of literally thousands of voice/data outlets in the entire new hub

The one billion dollar expansion of its global all-points air facility in Louisville more than doubled the size of the sorting complex to 4,000,000 square feet. Packages are routed through the system’s 122 miles of conveyors in as little as eight minutes. The entire operation is expandable to accommodate up to 500,000 packages per hour.

Eastern State Hospital Replacement Facility

New Facility to provide contemporary psychiatric treatment in a residential setting. The main building is 273,000 sf, three story, on a 28 acre site at the University of Kentucky Coldstream Farm. The project includes four personal care homes at 12,616 sf each. The new campus includes 168 adult psych beds, 25 forensic beds, 25 geriatric beds, 12 acquired brain injury beds and 48 personal care home beds. The project will be LEED Certified (Silver) when completed.

The KFC YUM! Center project is a new, multi-purpose, 22,000 seat, 721,762 square foot arena located in Louisville Kentucky. It will be the home arena for the University of Louisville men’s and women’s basketball teams as well as accommodating a variety of other events including NCAA championships and concerts. It has seven levels, 71 suites, four party suites, 62 junior suites, and nearly 3,000 club seats. The arena has multiple club lounges, a 2,500 square foot store, a restaurant overlooking the Ohio River and 32,000 square feet of meeting space.

Working closely with world renowned architectural firm, John Burgee Architects, the vision of a heroic skyscraper of the 1920’s was achieved. At the top, a series of setbacks creates a distinctive roofline that culminates in a filigreed, classical dome.

Cabela’s

With approximately 92,000 square feet of space, the multistory Cabela’s was a very much welcomed addition to the Old Brownsboro Crossing retail area. This facility is the first in Kentucky. The project was especially challenging beause it was a fast-track project, which included 100+ floor boxes and “live” Mountain with fresh water tank.

Features of this Cabela’s store include an indoor cafe/restaurant, a gun library, and archery range, boat retail and maintenance areas and expanded footwear retail. The store is illuminted with three (3) 20′ diameter chandeliers and four (4) smaller chandeliers in the entryway and 200+ hi-bay over the retail areas.

With approximately 286,000 square feet of space, the Multistory Bass Pro Shop in Clarksville, Indiana is the company’s largest facility east of the Mississippi River; second in size only to the Corporate Headquarters located in Springfield, Missouri. The project was especially challenging because it was a fast-track project, which involved renovating a large portion of an existing mall.

Features of this Outdoor World Superstore included an indoor seafood restaurant overlooking the Atrium, Clerestory, and Retail Areas • a stream meandering through the center of the store • a 45,000 gallon aquarium stocked with native fish • Children’s Interactive Shooting Arcade • Water Fall • Full Size Biplane • Indoor Archery • Golf Range • Movie Theater • Museum Quality Wildlife Displays, and a Starbucks Coffee Shop.

Churchill Downs

This $95 million Phase II project took nearly two years to complete and included an expanded Turf Club, 15 luxury suites, new group sales areas, premium outdoor third-floor boxes, indoor box seats, a new media center and television production compound, new dining and entertainment areas, a new grand entrance at Gate 17 leading to the track’s integrated simulcast wagering areas, a new central kitchen, and satellite kitchen facilities. The construction provided an additional 404,000 square feet and increased the permanent seating capacity to approximately 52,000. A large scale renewal of the Twin Spires Clubhouse, including demolition and renovation, seating improvements in all areas, restaurants, Millionaires’ Row, enhanced wagering areas and equipment for a first class facility.
